Celebrate America with the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra

Date: Saturday, July 2, 2016
Time: 7:30 PM
Location: Clarksburg Amphitheater

The Cultural Foundation of Harrison County invites the community to share an evening of patriotic music by the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra, designed to delight the entire family, on Saturday, July 2, 7:30 PM at the Clarksburg Amphitheater in the VA Park, located on WV Rt. 98.

The event is free to the public, has open seating, and is made possible by the Barbara B. Highland Fund for the Arts. The Clarksburg City Park Board welcomes you to bring a picnic and your family to Celebrate America with an outdoor symphony orchestra concert, some very special guests, and a grand finale fireworks display sponsored by Antero Resources Corporation.

Joining the symphony will be rising Broadway, Country Music, and X-Factor star Rachel Potter, who joins the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra on their Celebrate America tour. Ms. Potter brings a touch of the Great White Way, performing Broadway hits from “Wicked” and “The Phantom of the Opera.” The concert repertoire of patriotic music also includes: “The Star Spangled Banner” and “God Bless America” to name a few. There is also a nod to the WSO November 10, 2016 concert with two works by Aaron Copland, “Fanfare for the Common Man” and “Hoe-Down” from “Rodeo.”

In addition, renowned performance painter Rachel Kice, who has shared the stage with Big & Rich, Kid Rock, Gretchen Wilson, Willie Nelson, George Clinton, Jewel, and Jon Bon Jovi, will accompany the evening’s music and add a visual component to the concert experience by creating a 48” x 48” painting onstage. The painting will remain with The Cultural Foundation and will be made available for viewing at Springhill Suites by Marriott, who is helping to sponsor her participation, and at other locations in the community.

“The annual July tour, Celebrate America, is a great patriotic celebration. It features music that’s rooted in the American spirit with marches by Sousa, anthems, Broadway show tunes and patriotic favorites.” Says WSO music director Andre Raphel.

Transportation to the Amphitheater will be available by CENTRA bus from downtown Clarksburg at the Harrison County Senior Citizens Center, beginning at 6:30 PM. Patrons will also be shuttled to the entrance of the Amphitheater from the Splash Zone Pool parking lot. Return transportation will begin at 9:15 PM.

In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be held in the auditorium at Robert C. Byrd High School, which is also on WV Rt. 98.
